Markets

Markets are part of daily life in Guadeloupe, and they give visitors a direct look at how the island eats, cooks and trades. Produce arrives from nearby farms and gardens: fruit, vegetables, root crops, herbs and spices are laid out in crates and baskets, often early in the morning. Vendors set up in town squares, along streets and under covered halls, and the atmosphere shifts through the day as shoppers come and go.
Alongside food, many markets include stands selling prepared dishes, juices and sweets, as well as crafts such as baskets, textiles and small souvenirs. The range varies from one commune to another, and larger towns tend to have fuller, more regular markets than small villages. This section is being built: no market listings are published yet, but it will gather practical information on where markets are held and what visitors can expect to find there.
